Many bodywork therapies are directly involved with anatomic and histologic changes associated with disease and injury. It is important to let your therapist know of any disease or injury you are experiencing to avoid complications or allergic reactions after your session.

How could a massage worsten my condition?

Massage increases circulation of lymph and blood flow. If you currently are suffering from a strep throat or any auto-immune infections, the massage will increase the inflammatory response aggravating your condition by spreading the infection elsewhere within your body. Toxins are also being released from the tissues, creating extra work on the immune system. This will throw your system into overload- aggravating your symptoms such as feelings of nausea, headaches, rashes, or pain.

Localized infection is not as serious however, please inform your therapist of any localized swelling or any recent injuries. Depending on the severity, they may avoid the area or work proximal to the site to assist proper lymph flow, by allowing the area to heal quickly.

If you are subject to alcohol or drug overdose, it is heavily advised to not recieve a massage or bodywork therapy from 3 days after the consumption. Please drink plenty of water to eliminate and cleanse the liver (check out the detox link). Massage may trigger an allergic reaction- rashes, vomiting, headaches, and/or a relapse in these cases.
